Tigers Activate Outfielder Perez (Oblique) From Injured List
Perez Returns from Injury
The Detroit Tigers activated outfielder Willi Castro from the 10-day injured list on Saturday. Castro had been sidelined since May 12 with a left oblique strain.
Castro was batting .297 with two home runs and 10 RBIs in 32 games before landing on the IL. He is expected to start in center field and bat leadoff in his first game back.
Tigers Reshuffle Outfield
With Castro's return, the Tigers will have to make some adjustments to their outfield alignment. Robbie Grossman, who had been playing center field in Castro's absence, will likely move to left field.
Akil Baddoo, who had been playing left field, could see his playing time decrease with Castro back in the lineup. Baddoo is batting just .226 with one home run and five RBIs in 38 games this season.
Castro's Return a Boost for Tigers
Castro's return is a boost for the Tigers, who have struggled offensively in recent weeks. The Tigers have lost six of their last 10 games and are now 21-32 on the season.
Castro is a key part of the Tigers' offense and his return should help provide a spark. The Tigers will need all the help they can get as they try to climb back into contention in the AL Central.
