Chelseas Managerial History A Comprehensive Look

Chelsea's managerial history: A comprehensive look

From John Robertson to Mauricio Pochettino

Roberto Di Matteo, the first to win the UEFA Champions League

Roberto Di Matteo made history in 2012 when he became the first manager to win the UEFA Champions League for Chelsea. The Italian coach took over the reins of the club midway through the 2011-12 season after Andre Villas-Boas was sacked. Despite inheriting a squad that was in disarray, Di Matteo managed to turn things around and guide Chelsea to an unlikely victory in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich.

Di Matteo's success was all the more remarkable considering that he had never managed a top-flight club before. He had previously worked as an assistant manager at Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion, but he had no experience as a head coach. However, he quickly proved his worth at Chelsea, and his achievement in winning the Champions League will forever be remembered as one of the greatest moments in the club's history.

Other notable Chelsea managers

In addition to Di Matteo, there have been a number of other notable managers who have worked at Chelsea. These include:

  • John Robertson (1905-1907): The first manager of Chelsea Football Club.
  • Ted Drake (1952-1961): The manager who led Chelsea to their first major trophy, the FA Cup, in 1955.
  • Tommy Docherty (1967-1970): The manager who led Chelsea to their first European trophy, the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, in 1971.
  • Jose Mourinho (2004-2007, 2013-2015): The manager who led Chelsea to two Premier League titles, one FA Cup, and one League Cup.
  • Antonio Conte (2016-2018): The manager who led Chelsea to the Premier League title in 2017.

Mauricio Pochettino is the latest in a long line of successful managers at Chelsea. He has a proven track record of success at Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain, and he will be hoping to continue that success at Chelsea.
