Norris, Sainz follow Alonso in top three

MONTREAL -- Fernando Alonso set the pace in first practice for the Canadian Grand Prix on Friday, as Aston Martin showed impressive pace in the wet conditions at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
The two-time world champion lapped the 4.361km circuit in a time of 1:14.435, over three tenths clear of Lando Norris in the McLaren.
Carlos Sainz was third for Ferrari, ahead of teammate Charles Leclerc and Mercedes' George Russell.
The session was interrupted by two red flags, the first caused by a spin for Nicholas Latifi and the second for a crash involving Alex Albon.
Despite the stoppages, all 20 drivers were able to complete a number of laps on the wet track.
The second practice session is scheduled to take place later today at 1:00pm local time.
